The SPKA has had a training scheme in place for years similar to the PKA and FISLY system to allow buggy pilots a basic race competency licence. There will be NO FEE for licencing. Although you will be required to bring proof of SPKA insurance through the BKSA and your own kit (buggy, kite(s), safety accessories). A small charge may be made for the issue of a pilots licence with an SCO number for race identification.
Please could anyone interested in becoming a licenced racer get in touch with us
Licencing days are available free to all SPKA members to attend and attempt and contain a short multiple choice test on the basic race rules and a 20-30min practical "mock race".
Multiple Choice Test
20 Questions covering the basics of buggy racing rules such as:
- The flags
- Priorities such as upwind pilot raises kite, downwind pilot lowers their kite
- Priority of the right and into and around turns
- Restrictions on additional weight and sizes for a pilot's buggy
- Overtaking procedures
- The race start procedure
- Safety and insurance requirements
For a full listing of the rules and regulations we test using the FISLY I.S.R.R. rule book.
Mock Race
This will involve pilots moving around a short course to prove they can navigate safely with other pilots, be in control of kite and buggy and do simple turns (downwind gybes).
